Boity Thulo – Rapper, Television Personality, Entrepreneur, Model & Traditional Healer – South Africa

Boitumelo “Boity” Thulo has built a career across modelling, television, entrepreneurship, music and entertainment. Her accolades and visibility come largely from South African popular culture rather than adult entertainment. One of the more interesting parts of her public life is spirituality: Thulo has openly discussed both her Christian faith and her traditional African spiritual calling. In 2016 she explained that she remained a committed Christian who attended the Anglican Church while also having undergone training connected with becoming a sangoma. More recently, she has spoken about God and ancestral practices as existing alongside one another rather than necessarily being contradictory.

Her approach to beauty and lifestyle has generally been tied to confidence, fashion, African identity, ambition and self-definition. There is also a useful distinction between sexualized celebrity imagery and a documented sexual philosophy: Boity has appeared in glamorous and sometimes revealing fashion imagery, but that alone doesn’t establish her views about sex, bisexuality, homosexuality, pornography or nudity. On religion, her public statements have actually been much clearer than her political views.
